Lessons from EBS Toolbox Customers Migrating to Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP

Lessons from EBS Toolbox Customers Migrating to Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP

What we’ve learned from real teams making the switch – and how they’re avoiding common pitfalls

Over the last year, I’ve had the chance to work closely with organizations migrating from Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) to Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP. Many of them were longtime users of our EBS Toolbox and were preparing for a major transformation.

But while the move to the cloud brings a lot of promise, it also brings unexpected complexity—especially when it comes to data.

Here are the top lessons we’ve learned from customers who have been through it—and the tools and approaches that helped them go live with confidence.

Most customers go into their Oracle Fusion projects planning to use Oracle’s native File-Based Data Import (FBDI) tool. But once implementation begins, reality sets in.

FBDI is rigid, lacks built-in validation, and often results in delays and failed loads. If your data isn’t perfect, FBDI won’t give you much help in figuring out what went wrong—or how to fix it.

As one customer told us:

We assumed FBDI would be fine, but it became a full-time job trying to get our data clean enough to load.”

The teams that saw the smoothest go-lives had one thing in common: they validated their data before attempting to load it into Oracle Cloud.

With tools like More4apps, users can catch errors early, fix them in a familiar Excel interface, and avoid the back-and-forth frustration of failed uploads. This proactive step alone has saved our customers countless hours (and headaches).

A recurring theme from customers was the challenge of enabling non-technical users to manage data. FBDI requires a deep understanding of Oracle’s backend—and most business users just don’t have time for that.

That’s why Excel-based integration became such a popular alternative. More4apps lets users work in Excel (a tool they already know), while syncing directly with Oracle Fusion Cloud. It bridges the gap between business and IT—and helps ensure that data is owned and managed by the people who know it best.

Customers using More4apps during implementation have continued to use it post-migration for data updates, cleanups, and ongoing process improvements—without relying solely on technical resources.

One customer shared:

“More4apps became our go-to tool not just for migration, but for everything after. It’s now part of our day-to-day toolkit.”

EF Education First successfully transitioned to Oracle Fusion Cloud by using More4apps to clean, validate, and manage their data throughout the process. Their team avoided many of the roadblocks others face and credited the tool with enabling a smoother, faster implementation. Watch the webinar here.

Final Thoughts

If you’re planning a move to Oracle Fusion Cloud—or you’re already in the thick of it—here are the key takeaways from customers who’ve been there:

*Don’t assume FBDI will handle everything

*Validate your data before loading

*Give your business users tools they actually enjoy using

*Plan for long-term data needs, not just go-live
